Ms. Fisher

Carey Zaring Fisher teaches 7th and 8th grade science and has been at Dunstan since the opening of the new building in 2006. She developed her love for science as a child growing up on her father's Indiana farm. She is a lover of college basketball, of course, and attended Indiana University where she studied to earn a bachelor's in telecommunications and advertising and a minor in business. And she watched a lot of college basketball games. After college, Mrs. Fisher worked in Chicago at a marketing firm. Working in the cubical and staring at the computer screen caused Mrs. Fisher to re-examine her career path. She wanted to do work that could make a difference in the lives of others and so she earned her master's in teaching and learning from DePaul University. Her desires were tested as she worked in an inner-city, gang-ridden neighborhood school serving third graders who had been held back due to low reading scores. Once Mrs. Fisher realized that the sun was visible 300+ days a year in Colorado, she left Chicago to work at the very rural Elizabeth Middle School. She likes to say that she "found her spot in the middle" and loves working with middle schoolers. Eventually, she moved to Denver and took a job working in Cherry Creek School District before meeting her husband and moving to 8300' in Conifer. Her husband is also an educator and teaches social studies at West Jeff Middle School. The move brought her to Jeffco where she taught at Deer Creek Middle and then Dunstan. Mrs. Fisher is blessed with two children who provide joy and much entertainment.  She also has a black lab named Wilson. As a family, they enjoy going to concerts, camping, hiking, wildlife spotting, gardening, biking, photography, and cooking. Life is beautiful and she plans to enjoy it fully!
